After defeating Panama with 4-0 at Orlando City Stadium on Friday night, US Men’s National Team has moved one step closer towards 2018 World Cup. With this win, the Unites States has got the third place in the six-team CONCACAF group that will send three countries to the World Cup.
US’s Christian Pulisic and Jozy Altidore helped a lot in winning the match by scoring two first-half goals within 20 minutes. Jozy also converted a penalty in the 43rd minute, further leading the team. Bobby Wood closed out the scoring with a 63rd-minute tally.
Bruce Arena, the head coach of USMNT, said of Pulisic, “Christian’s first goal was a terrific finish and I was pleased for both Jozy and Bobby Wood. Our top three attackers all had a good night. I’ve never built a team around one player, he’s exceptional and he stands out but for him to be more effective he needs better players around him”.
Arena added, “The better players we have around him the better he will be. He was kicked a few times, he’s been beaten up a few times in this Concacaf qualifying competition so I wanted to protect him”.
The head coach also said, “It was a good win for our team. We have had a great year despite what people think. We have come a long way, the game in Trinidad won’t be easy but we are in a good position now. It won’t be easy, it will be challenging. We faced challenging conditions in Honduras and Panama so we will be ready. Trinidad are out but will be a handful.”
Michael Bradley, the captain of USMNT, said, “On a night where so much was on the line — maybe everything — we played in a way from the get-go that gave no doubt as to who was going to win the game,”. Bradley added, “Across the board we had guys ready for a big game. And come through in a huge way,. But the job isn’t quite done yet.”
We wish a good luck to the team for the upcoming World Cup qualifying matches.
