The Winter Olympics 2018 is awaiting at the doorsteps- PyeongChang is the place to be! Before the friendly battle begins for the honor, here is a list of 11 best athletes to watch out for. These athletes are those in the league who are ready to kill it and would be a delight to watch them in action.
However, the Winter Olympics are a few months away and the thousands of athletes have been practicing and giving their best to make their nation proud, the games would be real treat to watch, where the best among all would be competing for the top position. Starting from Feb 9 to Feb 25, in the coming year, here are the stars to watch for-
With her debut in the World Cup, at the age of 16 in the year 2000, Lindsey Vonn embarked her name. 32 year old Vonn is an American World Cup alpine ski racer and had won by now four World Cup. Winning the gold medal in the year 2010 in downhill Winter Olympics, she became the first American women to do so. Vonn is also one among six women to win over World Cup races in all five disciplines of alpine skies. However, Vonn won’t be the only American this year to compete. Mikaela Shiffrin, now 21, won slalom champion in Olympic alpine skiing history. That time she was only 18 years old the youngest one to do so. And seriously she is getting better every day!
Shaun Roger White is the other name on the list. This American snowboarder and skateboarder is a two time Olympic gold medalist. It’s remarkable that Shaun Roger White went pro at an early age of 17. His participation in the Winter X Games won him a medal every year since 2002. However, Shaun who now is 30 could be possibly competing for the last time in the Olympic fame while young stars like America’s Chloe Kim, 16 and 23 years old Canada’s Mark McMorris would be competing to steal the glory from Shaun.
Here, we totally cannot skip the name of Katie Ormerod, 19, who is UK’s first female snowboarder to land at Double Cork 1080. Katie is also the first British athlete to take home two medals at the same Winter Games. And it is perhaps Katie who would be a great completion to Chloe. Well let’s hope the best wins!
We’ve got someone seeking for pure redemption, its Elise Christie who is 26 faced disqualifications three times in three different races after the Sochi event. Elise who is also a ten times European gold medalist and the first British and the first European women to do, she is back to claim her glory. Then we have Nathan Chen who is presently the top scorer at international figure skating completion. Chen who is 17 years old, is an American figure skater is only skater in the world who is capable of landing both the quad lutz and quad flip jumps in completions. Well, America this time is hoping for gold from Nathan.
A three-time Grand Prix Final Medalist, Ashley Wagner, 26, is the other name expected to glorify America’s name in the women’s figure skating glory. With what has become her signature style of skating of spinning and jumping clockwise, which is unusual to most skaters, she is really looked forward to. Gracie Gold, 22, is another hopeful name in the list of America’s glory in women’s figure skating. Gracie is a two times U.S. national champion and is placed in the fourth position in the World Championship. Well the Winter Olympics will surely set the ice on fire with strong contenders like speed skater Charles Hamelin who is a four times Olympic medalist listing 3 gold and 1 silver to his name. This 33 years old was placed in the fourth position at the 2006 Winter Olympics and this time he will be back to claim his glory by winning the 1,000m event.
With time slipping by, we all are pretty excited to see who wins. So who’s your favorite from the list?
